Breast Augmentation: Fat Fill vs. Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation is an incredibly popular procedure among women worldwide. It offers them an opportunity to have their desired contour, making them feel more feminine.

Breast augmentation also makes the breast appear more youthful, symmetrical, and aesthetically appealing. Most women who have undergone this procedure display a higher sense of self-confidence and satisfaction. Especially for women who have had a mastectomy due to breast cancer, find this procedure to be a boon, as it restores the appearance of their breast to what it was before undergoing mastectomy.

Presently, there are two procedures for Breast augmentation available:

  • Fat fill (or fat grafting) and
  • Implant (Saline/Silicone Implant).

Using Breast implants is more of a traditional breast augmentation procedure, but there are many women who are concerned about getting such enhancement as it may make their breasts look too ‘fake’ and use of foreign material(silicone)

In such cases, these women can opt for a fat fill procedure that uses fat from their own body to improve bust size.

Women opting for this procedure are able to have breasts that look and feel natural while having excess body fat removed, thus getting the added benefit of enhancing their curves.

At Aesthetics studio, we offer exceptional treatment from one of Chennai’s best Female Plastic Surgeons and dedicated care of the professional nursing staff at an affordable cost for both Implant and Fat-Fill Breast Augmentation procedures.

Wondering which Breast Augmentation procedure is better?

Fat Fill or Breast Implants, make a decision based on benefits and drawbacks of each procedure based on suitability.

Fat Fill Procedure

Benefits

  • Fat Fill uses fat from the patient's body to augment their breast, making it the safest and most natural material for enhancing the breast.
  • Helps to remove unwanted fat from one site (tummy, arms, thigh ) and inject it into the desired site(breast). So it’s a two in one beneficial procedure.
  • No risk for allergic reactions as the own tissue is used during the procedure.
  • Breasts would look and feel natural.
  • No scars on the breasts after undergoing this procedure as the patient is only injected with fat through a very small incision in the axilla, which is well hidden.
  • No risk of long-term breast thinning or rippling, related to large breast implants occurs.
  • Unlike Breast implants that need regular check-ups for preventing complications and making replacements, fat fills last a lifetime without any side effects.
  • As excess fat in the body is harvested for this procedure, there is an option to improve the body's contours.

Patients undergoing fat fill can lactate/breastfeed normally.

Drawbacks

  • As only a limited amount of fat can be harvested and transplanted during each procedure, large changes cannot be made.
  • Hence to achieve a very good volume more than one sitting may be required.
  • .Fat fill gives more a natural appearance as compared to the good shape and volume with implants.
  • Of the injected fat into the breast, some may get absorbed(15-20%) post-procedure.

Breast Implant Procedure

Benefits

  • Unlike fat fill where only a limited amount of fat can be harvested and transplanted in
  • breasts, implants of the desired size and shape can be used for enhancing the breast.
  • Silicone implants available today are safer and more natural in looks and feel.
  •  Having an implant does not affect the ability to breastfeed/ lactate in women.

Drawbacks

  • Implants may need to be replaced in case of any rupture or leakage
  • There is a risk of capsular contracture (when scar tissue thickens around the implant it can cause the implant to distort and harden) occurring.
  • Visible scars are produced when placing implants, whereas scars from fat injections are nearly invisible.
